Ignition Boxes

The 6A is the base capacitive discharge, multiple sparking ignition. It will increase the overall performance of everything from the loaded work truck to the bracket street cars cruising the boulevard. The hot multiple sparks ensure complete combustion of the air/fuel mixture even under the worst conditions possible. The MSD 6A improves power, quickens throttle response, smoothes out idle and starting, reduces spark plug fouling, and improves mileage while reducing emissions.
    All sparks, including each multiple spark, is 110 milliJoules of spark energy. Steps up the primary voltage to 470 volts. Spark series lasts for 20° of crankshaft rotation. Operates at full power with a supply of 10 - 18 volts and will run down to 5 volts. Cast aluminum housing and Humi-Seal coated circuits protect the electronics. Can be triggered using points, electronic ignitions or magnetic pickups.

The 6AL delivers everything the 6A does with the addition of a built-in Soft Touch Rev Control. This feature allows you to set an rpm limit to protect the engine from over-rev damage caused by driveline failure or missed shifts. Other MSD RPM Controls can be connected to the 6AL such as a Three Step Module Selector (PN 8737) or RPM Activated Switch (PN 8950). The 6AL also comes supplied with rubber shock mounts and 3,000, 6,000, 7,000 and 8,000 rpm modules.

Supercharged or turbo engines will benefit from the 6BTM in more ways than one. Not only do the full energy sparks help burn the fuel mixture, it allows the driver to retard the ignition timing based on the amount of boost being produced by the super/turbo charger. The timing is adjusted from a dash
mounted knob and can be retarded 1 - 3° per pound of boost with a maximum of 15°. There is also a built-in adjustable rev control to protect the engine from over-rev damage.

MSD combines race winning experience with cutting edge technology to create the most powerful Digital Ignition available! The Digital-6 Plus is Digital Done Right!

 The heart of the Digital-6 Plus Ignition is a 15 Megahertz microcontroller, the fastest of all digital ignitions. What this means is the controller analyzes up to 15,000,000 critical instructions per second! This is over three times the speed of comparable ignitions and produces the most accurate trigger signals, timing and rev limits possible.
 MSD engineers have spent an endless amount of time testing the components of the Digital-6 Plus to ensure the most efficient and reliable operation. The 6 Plus produces more power with less current draw (20% less) by incorporating an IGBT coil driver that can be controlled for improved coil saturation. Also, power MOSFET technology and high frequency magnetic converters require less input current while producing more energy and voltage.
 Every spark of the Digital-6 Plus ignition is packed with 135 millijoules of spark energy and up to 535 volts. Below 3,300 rpm the Digital-6 Plus produces a series of sparks that glows in the cylinder for up to 20° of crankshaft rotation. This incredible heat ensures combustion to produce great power, quick throttle response, smooth idle and quick starts.
 To prevent any chance of Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) a filter circuit is made up of state-of-the-art magnetic suppressor components. This, combined with the more than competent microcontroller, checks and rechecks inputs many times to determine “clean” signals before making any compensations. The magnetic input also features a unique microcontrolled feedback circuit for total EMI-free operation.

    Features of the Digital 6 include: The ability to switch between two rev limits that adjust with rotary switches in 100 rpm increments. A single stage retard for nitrous and top end performance. A Start retard that eases pressure on the starter, flywheel and engine.  Adjustable magnetic pickup compensation that produces accurate trigger signals. An LED display warns of trigger signal problems or faulty charging system. Unit is fully potted with polyurethane for vibration and water protection.

    The all new Digital SCI+ Ignition Control delivers the power and accessories that make it ideal for street/strip sport compact cars! High output capacitive discharge sparks ensure complete combustion of the fuel mixture especially at high rpm. If a dose of nitrous is being injected, there is a retard stage that can be activated automatically to prevent detonation from the increased cylinder pressures. To assist with firm launches, there is also a rev limit that can be activated that will hold the engine at a steady rpm so you can launch at full power! The heart of the Digital SCI+ Ignition is a 15 Megahertz microcontroller, the fastest of all digital ignitions. This efficiency results in a smooth rev limit and accurate timing. The ignition installs easily to most engines equipped with a distributor.

DIS-2 and DIS-4

Maximize your vehicle’s distributorless ignition system (DIS) with MSD’s powerful new ignition controls; the MSD DIS-2 and DIS-4. These Ignition Controls feature Multi-Channel capability, and can deliver up to 480 volts to the primary side of most DIS type dual output coils. With its two channels, the MSD Digital DIS-2 is designed for use on all 4-cylinder applications using 2 coils, while the DIS-4 can be used on all 6 and 8-cylinder engines with three or four coils.
These new DIS Ignitions feature the race proven capacitive discharge, multiple spark design of the MSD 6 Series Ignitions. Each spark of the MSD Digital DIS Ignitions is packed with up to 115 millijoules of spark energy, resulting in more efficient combustion to produce more power. To improve low speed throttle response, smooth out the idle and stop low speed spark plug fouling our engineers included MSD’s proven multiple spark discharge feature. This race tested design produces a series of full power sparks that last for 20° of crankshaft rotation to ensure complete combustion of the fuel mixture!

Soft Touch REV Control - The DIS-2 and DIS-4 both feature an adjustable built-in Soft Touch Rev Control to protect the engine from overrev damage caused by missed shifts or broken driveline components. This feature produces a smooth rev-limiting action by randomly dropping one cylinder at a time and then refiring that cylinder on the next firing cycle. This feature is easily adjusted with simple program switches mounted on the side of the unit.
    Two Step Module Selector - The Two Step function of the MSD Digital DIS Ignition allows you to activate a low rpm limit while staging and waiting for the light to turn green. This popular feature gives you a distinct advantage over your competition by permitting you to control your engine’s rpm precisely before every launch. With a fixed rpm limit at the starting line, each launch will be consistent and quick! The rpm limit is easy to adjust in 250 rpm increments with switches built into the side of the housing.
    Programmable Timing Control - Precise timing control is essential to producing maximum engine power. With the addition of nitrous, turbos or supercharger systems, timing becomes even more critical. To get the most out of your engine, the ignition must be able to compensate for these extreme changes in cylinder pressure throughout the engine’s entire rpm range. During low speed operation, the MSD DIS Ignitions use the factory ignition to control basic timing functions. Once maximum timing is achieved, the DIS-2 and DIS-4 can be programmed to retard the timing at a specific rate and rpm point to prevent engine damage due to detonation caused by excessive timing.
    LED Monitor - A built-in LED monitor is a useful tool to determine the status of the charging and ignition systems. When the battery voltage drops below 8 volts, the LED will begin flashing at a rate of two times per second, letting you know that the charging system is not operating properly or that the battery has failed. Also, if any of the ignition’s channels lose their trigger input, the LED will flash at a rate of one flash per second.

 Ignition Interupt - To prevent accidental or unauthorized starting of the vehicle, the MSD DIS Ignition systems feature a driver activated ignition interrupt feature that can be used as an anti-theft device. When activated, this feature will prevent the engine from starting by disabling the ignition’s voltage output to the coil.
    EMI Noise Protection - As with all MSD Ignition products, additional protection from Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) has been added to the design of the DIS. Special circuitry filters out unwanted noise that commonly causes other aftermarket ignition systems to false trigger, operate intermittently and even fail.

Ignition Coils

If you are looking to upgrade your stock coil, or want to compliment the performance of your MSD Blaster Ignition, MSD 5, 6 or 7, the Blaster Coil line is the right choice. All of the Blaster Coils are designed for improved spark output!
Special 100:1 windings are used to provide maximum build-up of voltage! These windings are held secure and kept cool in an oil filled metal canister. The tower assembly is molded of durable alkyd material due to its high dielectric characteristics while wide spaced brass primary terminals prevent the possibility of spark.
The MSD line of Blaster Coils is known for great performance from the street to the circle tracks. Following in that performance line, the new Blaster SS Coil is ready to leave its mark.
The Blaster SS is an E-core style coil, which is a very efficient design when it comes to producing high voltage and spark energy. The windings produce 300mA and can handle up to 48,000 volts when used with an MSD 6 Series Ignition Control. The windings are held secure in a Dupont® Rynite™ injection molded shell and are then encased in an epoxy compound for protection against vibration and water. The primary terminals are located at opposite ends of the tall spark tower so there is no chance of arcing especially with the high dielectric characteristics of the Rynite housing.
The Coil is compact enough to fit in tight areas and is supplied with vibrations mounts.
